This post is occasioned by an effort with the <a href=\"https:\/\/tifwe.org\/\">Institute of Faith, Work, and Economics<\/a> to look into the greatest commandment and what it means for personal wealth. For those interested, there is a link to a free ebook at the bottom of the piece (or <a href=\"http:\/\/store.tifwe.org\/products\/wholehearted-a-biblical-look-at-the-greatest-commandment-and-personal-wealth-digital-download\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Bible says\u00a0a good bit about\u00a0the issued of wealth and property, and how we\u2019re to understand the things\u00a0we accumulate in this life. Most Christian studies on\u00a0wealth tend to see\u00a0it as something to manage, not something tied to a believer\u2019s core. They usually focus simply\u00a0on biblical passages that explicitly mention money. Though such prooftexts are helpful, they often miss larger themes\u00a0threaded through\u00a0Scripture\u00a0that speak to how we ought to use the gifts God has\u00a0given us.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For instance, any discussion\u00a0of the Christian view of wealth\u00a0ultimately revolves around the subject of stewardship. Stewardship gives us an invaluable category for pondering\u00a0how we use property, particularly in how we understand\u00a0ownership in light of the Creator\/creature distinction. In light of a personal Creator, to what extent can we say we truly \u201cown\u201d anything?<\/p>\n<p>These important questions tell us a lot about wealth.
